Back to basics for Boro
Mark Robins thanked Huddersfield Town fans for their support and said that it was time to go back to basics ahead of Middlesbrough.
Town’s defeat at Blackpool on Saturday made it three losses in four games with Robins describing the first half performance as one of the worst of his tenure.
Over 2,000 fans made the trip to the west coast and Robins thanked them for their backing.
“The supporters have been magnificent,” he said. “The first half was terrible on Saturday, but they stuck behind myself and the team. Sometimes I will get it right and other times I won’t; I am still learning and I am certainly not the finished article. I understand the job and what is required to move the Club forward, but I am probably as guilty as everyone else for being impatient.
“I need to take stock of where we are and get back to doing things correctly on the pitch because for the most part we have done well.
“Let’s stick to our guns and entertain the fans,” he added.
Town were out fought at Bloomfield Road but will come up against a Middlesbrough side on Tuesday night who under new boss Aitor Karanka has played some impressive football.
“I don’t want to dwell on it that is for sure,” Mark said on the 1-0 defeat. “On the whole it was poor despite our performance improving in the second half.
“We need to start enjoying our football and improving certain aspects of our game such as our shots on target and passing. Let’s get back to basics.
“They like to pass the ball and have plenty of pace in the wide areas,” he said on Boro. “They signed Lee Tomlin in the transfer window and have Jacob Butterfield who I know very well from our time together at Barnsley. They have a lot of quality at their disposal and have played well on the counter attack of late.
“They have proven tough to break down and haven’t conceded many goals, but on the other hand they haven’t scored too many.”
The way forward in Robins’ view is for Town to return to the passing game: “We need to really concentrate on ourselves; we have been chasing results and trying to make things happen too quickly,” he said. “We have come a long way and I think it is time to put things back into perspective. The performance on Saturday was a backward step, but we are more than capable of moving forward.
“We want to be better than where we currently are and I think we look frustrated at the moment, but we aren’t quite ready as a Club to make that step. We need to get back on track and start entertaining the fans with passing football.”
Robins finished by saying that defender Joel Lynch should return to training on Monday, whilst he also has to run the rule over one or two following Saturday’s match.
