ROBINS: VAUGHAN COULD FEATURE

14 March 2014

Manager hints at striker’s availability

James Vaughan could feature against Blackburn this weekend according to Manager Mark Robins.

Vaughan has missed over a month of football due to a calf injury, but is closing in on a return to action.

“There is a chance that he will feature,” said Mark. “He is at a decent stage in his recovery and is looking sharp. He has been out for a long period of time and we will need to be sensible with him. We will evaluate how long he can be effective for.”

The squad that travelled to Charlton in midweek returned to training on Friday morning for final preparations ahead of the Rovers game.

“The lads had a recovery day on Thursday and we will check on their condition today. It was a late return on Thursday morning and we will do our final preparation this morning.

“On reflection I was content with a point at Charlton,” Mark continued. “It wasn’t a great game, but it was a tough environment to play football in. It was a scrappy affair, but the lads did well and were up for the game.

“Charlton aren’t a bad side and only circumstances find them bottom of the league. It is a false position and as a result of their excellent cup run and recent postponements.”

Rovers picked up seven points in three games at the start of February and looked set for a tilt at the Play-Offs, but three straight losses has seen them drop out of contention and down to 10th in the Championship.

“Blackburn is a different club compared to us,” said Mark. “They were recently in the Premier League and after being relegated, Gary Bowyer has come in and steadied the ship. He has brought his own players in, ones that he knew well, and he has developed a good squad. They have got a host of wingers and attackers and have a decent blend of players.

“They are on the back of a three game losing streak though, and they will want to stop that. It has been a tough week for them, but they have a strong squad. Gary has done well, galvanised them and got them into a mid-table position, not too far off the Play-Offs.

“We are a win away from going above them, which puts things into perspective. It will be a good achievement if we can beat them and something that we are capable of. We want to start winning games again and get out of this win-lose form that we are currently in.”
