Huddersfield Town

Town’s team has now recorded three wins and a draw in its last four home games, but Chris believes today’s win was the pick of the crop.

“I’ve been really impressed with our last few performances at home – especially Blackpool – but we topped that today. That’s because of the start we had, the chances we created and the clean sheet – I like those!

“What was impressive was that the players put their bodies on the line. At 3-0 up in the 93rd minute I had Jack Robinson, Joel Lynch, Mark Hudson, Harry Bunn and Grant Holt back in there; you can’t ask for any more from all the players in that respect.

“They only got away a couple of times, but we had crucial moments like Joel Lynch’s tackle when he got a knock. Those moments are telling in any team’s performance. 

“I thought our play was really good. We really put them under pressure and we were patient out of possession. Although the stats will show they had loads more possession, it was in areas that didn’t hurt us.

“I’m really pleased with today. Our fans are with us and all the players are really pushing themselves; I thought the team grew and grew. We’re seven unbeaten now and that’s great. I like what we’re doing.”

Town’s players look full of confidence at the moment and Powell explained that he is happy for his side to showcase that on the pitch:

“Jacob Butterfield produced a piece of skill today that I will remember for quite a while; it was superb. Sean Scannell is doing the same thing. We love that when we see it in the Premier League, so why not enjoy it at your club in the Championship? I will always tell players to work hard, but also to enjoy their football; I say that every day. I will never tell people not to try pieces of skill, because that’s what we all come to see.

“I want my team to excite me – and they are doing at the minute. I’m sure the fans will have gone home happy today.” 

Next up for the Terriers is Tuesday night’s difficult game at Derby County’s iPRO Stadium, but Chris is relishing the challenge:

“We won 3-0 against a really fancied side at the start of a tough week. I’m really pleased with the all-round focus of everyone. Now we go to Derby, which is the focus. 

“What’s pushing us is to be better next time; that’s what I want. You should never settle for 3-0 – I’m going to drive home today wishing it was four! If we had that, I’d want five; that’s how I am. We’re pushing ourselves all the time and preparing for whatever happens on the pitch. 

“For now, let’s enjoy what’s happening. All I want is to keep going as we are.”
