Town took the lead through Jacob Butterfield’s second goal in as many games, but the Seagulls fought back and equalised through a scrappy set-piece goal from centre back Lewis Dunk.

Both sides had chances to clinch all three points during the second 45 minutes, but it came to no avail.

“The point keeps the momentum going. Of course I would love to have three, but we’ve played against a half-decent team that forces you to do things you don’t want to,” Chris told htafc.com after the final whistle. 

“We had a good opening and scored a very well-worked goal. It would have been nice to have held out, but I suppose the game ebbed and flowed; they had one or two openings like us. I suppose 1-1 is a fair result and it keeps us going.

“We tried to get the second, but Brighton got themselves back in it. I thought Harry Bunn fashioned a really good chance for himself that was well saved by David Stockdale and Sean Scannell had the beating of the full back in the first-half, but he tired towards the end.

“When you play Brighton you have to work defensively because they play their full-backs really high – almost as extra wingers. We can’t stay in their half as we have to track them, just as we force them to do with overlaps like for our goal. You have to do the work in the Championship and keep your energy levels and concentration high.

“Brighton will look at it and say they worked Alex (Smithies) a couple of times, but he stood up to the test as well. We were resolute, because you have to be patient out of possession against Brighton; they really want you to have fewer bodies in midfield, because that is the area they like to dominate. 

“Sometimes it can look frustrating, but it was ok for them to have it in areas where they don’t hurt you. Our backline had to stay tight when they tried to get between the lines and I thought we won the ball back well at times. We attempted to counter-attack from that. 

“I’m not frustrated though, because my team hasn’t lost – it’s much worse when you lose a game! I’m proud of their efforts. Of course we go out to win and we try to find different ways to win, but sometimes it may not go for us over the course of the game. Today we let Brighton back in it, but 1-1 was a fair result and now we’re a point better off and a place higher. We’re going in the right direction.”

The Terriers have now secured 11 points from a possible 15 over the last five games – something that delights the Town boss.

“Momentum is huge; it keeps our confidence levels high and keeps us on a good run. The players are working really hard and they will have pick themselves up again for Saturday. Full credit to the players, because they want to do things right and they’re enjoying the run we’re on. If you’re picking up two points a game, that’s good form. 

“We now look forward to Ipswich on Saturday. It’s a long journey and it’s going to be tough, so we’ll have to be ready. The players are enjoying each other’s company, enjoying training and enjoying winning matches and getting points when it’s tough. That will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season, because we will have sticky times.”
