Town’s Manager comments on the 2-1 victory
Huddersfield Town Manager Mark Robins admitted that relief was the overriding emotion after the Terriers guaranteed Sky Bet Championship football in 2014/15 with a first win in 11 at Yeovil Town this afternoon.
“That was tough to watch!” Mark said at the full-time whistle.
“The Championship can do all sorts to you. We have good players, but we looked less that competent in the first-half; we kept giving the ball away and couldn’t build. We knew that if we could pass the ball we would cause Yeovil major problems, but it just didn’t happen. I was pleased when half-time came.
“I think you could see the anxiety. At times our players seem to lack a bit of self-belief in their own ability and that has to be raised. There is work we can do towards that, but ultimately it must come from within.
“Adam (Clayton) is one player who doesn’t lack any self-belief; you can see that from the thing on his face! I think he used the stick he got from the home fans today as a stick to beat them with, because he went onto smash one in the top corner.
“We started off the second-half a little sloppily, but then we grew. Adam Clayton’s winner was outstanding and Adam Hammill’s contribution for both goals was good. Duane Holmes’ introduction had a positive impact as well.
“We should have put the game to bed earlier than we did, because we had some great chances; Hoggy (Jonathan Hogg) missed a couple for us in good positions. We have Nahki (Wells) to thank for scoring another goal; he’s been outstanding and will continue to be.
“I’m grateful, because we desperately needed the three points today. I’m relieved it hasn’t gone to the final game of the season like last year. It was massive because we haven’t won since 1 March; it’s been too long in coming.
“It’s still disappointing that we are talking about securing Championship status because we shouldn’t be. This has to be a lesson; we’ve had two seasons in the Championship now.”
Town had to play the majority of the second-half without Danny Ward, who was stricken on the pitch for some time due to a head injury. However, Mark explained that the attacker has recovered well.
“We’ll wait and see if it’s knocked any sense into him! He got a bang on his head, but he was talking when the physio went onto see him and he’s absolutely fine now.”
