P4P5 INTER-SCHOOL CHALLENGE

31 March 2014

School partners raise funds for ‘Keep It Up’

Four of Huddersfield Town’s school partners are teaming up to hold their own version of ‘Pedal for Pounds’ this week!

Organised by Jonathan Schofield, Leader of Learning in PE at Royds Hall School, four schools – Royds Hall, Holmfirth High, Westborough High and North Huddersfield Trust - will each raise funds for the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign by challenging their students to gain sponsorship and cycle the equivalent of the 250 mile ride from London to Huddersfield on static bikes.

The winning school will be the one who completes the mileage first!

The challenge will begin on Monday 31 March and run until Friday 4 April. Students and staff will take it in turns to cycle during PE lessons and at break times. At the end of each day, each school will email the total distance cycled to Jonathan and at the end of the week the winning school will be notified.

The winners will win tickets to an upcoming Huddersfield Town home game, with the top individual fundraiser from each school also receiving a ‘money can’t buy’ experience at Huddersfield Town.

All four schools will be visited by Town players this week to give them some encouragement!

This initiative follows on from one organised by Royds Hall last year, which raised £1,500 for the campaign.

Huddersfield Town’s Club Ambassador Andy Booth commented:

“This is a superb initiative involving four of the Club’s school partners and I would like to thank all the students and staff – and Jonathan from Royds Hall in particular – for taking part and helping to raise awareness and money for the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign.

“Make no mistake – as a ‘Pedal for Pounds’ cyclist, I know exactly how difficult this will be! I hope the students’ friends and family can get behind them and donate what they can.”

Next month almost 300 cyclists – including Chairman Dean Hoyle, Commercial Director Sean Jarvis and Club Ambassador Andy Booth – will cycle 250 miles from the Emirates Stadium back to Huddersfield to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity and the Huddersfield Town Academy.
