MILLER MOVES TO TOWN

Striker signs deal from Blackpool

Huddersfield Town has today completed the signing of striker Ishmael Miller from fellow Championship side Blackpool.

The 27 year-old has put pen to paper on a short-term contract that runs until the end of the current 2014/15 campaign, with Town having an option on a further season.

Ishmael arrives at ‘The Yorkshire Club’ having played exclusively at Premier League and Championship level throughout his career, making over 200 appearances and scoring 44 goals.

Huddersfield Town Manager Chris Powell commented:

“Since the start of January, I’ve made no secret of the fact that I wanted to supplement our forward options. Although I was comfortable extending our search into the upcoming loan window, I’m happy that we’ve managed to bring Ishmael in ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline.

“I talked about the need for the incoming player to have Championship know-how and Ishmael certainly fits that bill. He’s stands at an imposing 6’ 3” tall and is a powerful player; I believe he will complement James Vaughan and Nahki Wells and the likes of Harry Bunn and Sean Scannell.

“Having started his career at Manchester City, he is very well known to both Steve Eyre and Frankie Bunn. They’ve played a key part in his development and early professional career, and they’ve both given him good references as a footballer and as an individual.

“Now the ball is in Ishmael’s court; it’s down to him to do well for the Club and see if he can earn a longer-term deal. He’s a talented lad who has commanded millions of pounds in transfer fees during his career. At aged 27 he has a lot to offer.”

Manchester-born Miller started his career in Manchester City’s Academy, breaking into the team in 2006 and going onto make 20 appearances for the top-flight club.

Having signed a new three-year deal at City, he joined Championship West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2007. Nine goals in his first 13 games earned him a call-up into England Under-21 squad ahead of joining the Club permanently in January 2008 for £1.4million. Eventually he helped the Baggies win the Championship and get promoted into the Premier League, finishing the season with 16 Championship goals.

Unfortunately his next 18 months were interrupted by injury, but upon his recovery he joined Championship side QPR on loan in January 2011 - helping another side to win the Championship and promotion to the Premier League.

Miller moved permanently to Championship Nottingham Forest for £1.2million in summer of 2011 in search of regular First Team football, but next year he joined his former West Brom boss Tony Mowbray at Middlesbrough on another season-long loan.

Ishmael spent the majority of last season on loan at Championship Yeovil Town, scoring 10 goals in 20 starts.

He signed for Blackpool as a free agent in the summer.
