GATESHEAD 3 TOWN U18s 4

Reaction from Tony Carss...

- Second successive win for Huddersfield Town's Under-18s
- Cedwyn Scott (2), Akeel Francis & Adam Edgar score
- Reaction from Professional Development Coach Tony Carss

Town’s Lead Professional Development Coach Tony Carss was happy with the workout his young Under-18 side got against Gateshead in today’s pre-season friendly in the North East.

The young Terriers led 3-0 at half-time thanks to goals from two first year scholars; forward Cedwyn Scott netted a brace along with a goal from strike partner Akeel Francis.

Carss’ shuffled his line-up and formation for the second-half and trialist Australian striker Adam Edgar grabbed a goal to make it 4-1 before Town weathered a late fightback from the hosts to record the win.

Tony told htafc.com post-match:

“This was a good workout for the team.

“We set out in the first-half to sit off the opposition, work on our defending and then counter-attacking once we got the ball. That worked really well and we went in three goals ahead at half-time.

“It worked really well and was a good exercise to get the back line right; we started a little too deep, but the players adjusted well.

“In the second-half we changed the personnel and switched to a midfield diamond. We played with a full press and tried to play out from the back. We handed Gateshead a couple of goals by making a few poor decisions in dangerous areas, but that is an important lesson for the young lads to learn.”

This result was the second straight pre-season win for Town’s Under-18s following last week’s 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic at PPG Canalside.

Carss’ team is back in action on Saturday with a game at Middlesbrough; 11.30am kick-off.

Town’s team (4-4-2):
Tadhg Ryan; Harry Clibbens (Jacob Hanson, 70), Dylan Cogill (Callum Elliott, 46), Jordan Williams, Sam Gibson; Luca Colville (Jamie Spencer, 70), Lewis O’Brien (Adam Edgar, 46), Adam Porritt (Alfie Raw, 46), Dominic Tear (Oliver Dyson, 46); Akeel Francis (Rekeil Pyke, 70), Cedwyn Scott (Jack Boyle, 70)
