Lolley scores as Vaughan furthers comeback

Goals from Joe Lolley, Duane Holmes and Daniel Carr gave Town’s Under-21 side a 3-1 win in an entertaining Professional Development League 2 North game at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough on Monday evening.

The game also featured a return from injury for striker James Vaughan, who completed 45 minutes before being withdrawn as planned during the interval.

Winger Lolley (pictured) scored a superb goal to open the scoring after just five minutes, dribbling past two defenders before exchanging a sharp one-two with Vaughan and firing low into the bottom corner.

The Owls equalised just four minutes later when forward Emmanuel Dieseruvwe converted Ryan Croasdale’s pass and both sides exchanged chances before the second goal came in the 37th minute. That goal went Town’s way, with midfielder Sondre Tronstad doing brilliantly to find teammate Duane Holmes with a pull-back that the Academy graduate converted.

Town led at the interval and extended their lead just before the hour mark when substitute Daniel Carr, on for Vaughan, tapped in at the back post from Holmes’ chipped cross.

This win was the 10th in 14 games for Frankie Bunn's side so far this season and keeps them at the top of the table.

Lloyd Allinson, Jacob Hanson, William Boyle (c), Duane Holmes, Joe Wilkinson, Joe Wright, Sondre Tronstad, Joe Lolley (Flo Bojaj, 65), James Vaughan (Daniel Carr, 46), Philip Billing, Oscar Gobern
