Youngsters bounce back from FA Youth Cup defeat
Town’s Under-18 side bounced back from the midweek FA Youth Cup defeat at Chelsea to record a good 4-1 home win over Sheffield United in the Professional Development League 2 North at PPG Canalside on Saturday morning.
Professional Development Coach Tony Carss had to shuffle his pack ahead of the game due to injuries, with scholars Jacob Hanson, Ronan Coughlan, Rekeil Pyke and Sheiden Rodgers all unavailable. As a result, Town’s youngsters switched from their usual 4-2-3-1 formation to a 3-5-2.
Playing in a more advanced wing back position on the left side, Jack Senior (pictured above) opened the scoring around the 10 minute mark with a tap-in from close range before the visiting Blades pulled level with 10 minutes of the half remaining.
However, Town's Under-18s still went in two goals up at the interval. First Irish Under-17 international Danny Kane scored in the 37th minute, finishing from close range after a set-piece was cleared and then recycled into the penalty area.
Town were then awarded a penalty just before the break when right wing back Brad Carroll was pushed over inside the box, giving attacker Jack Boyle the opportunity to beat the goalkeeper from 12 yards.
The young Terriers sealed the win with five minutes of the game to spare when substitute Sam Warde did well down the right and pulled a cross back to the penalty spot, were Scottish striker Liam Coogans swept the ball home.
