SCANZ SIGNS NEW TOWN CONTRACT

21 November 2014

Powerful winger commits his future to ‘The Yorkshire Club’

Sean Scannell has today penned a two year contract extension that will see him stay at Huddersfield Town until the summer of 2017, with the Club having an option on a further season.

Scannell has been one of the standout performers for the Terriers since new Manager Chris Powell’s arrival in early September, leading to members of the Blue & White Foundation voting him as their ‘Player of the Month’ in October 2014.

Huddersfield Town Manager Chris Powell commented:

“Having Sean commit his future to Huddersfield Town should be a massive boost to everyone connected to the Club.

“Since my arrival here, Sean is the player that I’ve been asked about more than any other; by members of the media and Huddersfield Town fans alike.

“People consistently told me that he was somewhat of an enigma; an abundantly talented individual who had not always shown enough consistency.

“However, I have been delighted with everything about Sean’s game during my early time as Manager. He’s a fantastic character who cares deeply about his football and has been very willing to put in the hard work on the training pitch and during matches to improve. It is also clear to me that Sean enjoys this Club and life in Yorkshire

“I think we’ve seen the evidence of his ability and hard work out on the pitch over the last two months; at times he has been unplayable.

“Sean’s senior career started at a very young age at Crystal Palace and it’s important to remember he has only just turned 24. He’s still a young player and he can improve further, which is an exciting prospect. The key to success for Sean is consistency and it’s important he keeps working hard with the technical staff at the Club to achieve that.

“As everyone knows, we try to do our business quietly at Huddersfield Town and a lot of hard work has been going on behind the scenes in respect of Sean, following on from Joel Lynch, Harry Bunn and Murray Wallace all signing extended contracts recently.

The three assists and one goal Scannell has recorded so far this season have all come during Powell’s 12-game tenure as Huddersfield Town Manager, with those totals already eclipsing Sean’s assists and goals for the entire 2013/14 campaign.

‘Scanz’ has started all but three of the games during Powell’s tenure as Manager, meaning the winger has played 74% of the available minutes for Town’s First Team over the course of the 2014/15 campaign to date. That compares to just 39% last season.
