SCANZ: I WANT TO GO OUT AND PERFORM

31 January 2015

Winger relishing derby day

Sean Scannell says he cannot wait to face Leeds in Saturday’s West Yorkshire derby at the John Smith’s Stadium.

When the two sides met at Elland Road earlier this season, it was Leeds who came out on top – winning 3-0. However, Scannell is confident Town can win this time round, especially with the support of the home crowd.

“We’ve only lost one of the last five games in the League. Everyone is happy and looking forward to Saturday’s game.” Sean told htafc.com.

“I like derbies. The atmosphere is always great – everyone is up for it – and although I don’t get caught up in things, I know it is a big game for the fans. I want to go out and perform.

“I loved the last game at home against Leeds. It was a tough game because they fought back hard, but I setup the winner and it was a really happy feeling. We’ve found it tough at Elland Road recently, but at home we seem to do well.

“The game at Leeds in September was very disappointing. When you do a week of preparation and you’re looking forward to a game, getting beaten 3-0 is hard to take.

“The way we are going at the moment, I think it will be a good day if we continue to play well. We had a good result last weekend and we need to take that into Saturday.”

‘Scanz’ has been one of the Terriers’ star performers this season and has played a key role as Town has managed to pick up 10 points from the last 15 available.

Town could temporarily move up to 10th position in the Sky Bet Championship with a win over the Whites, but Sean says he’s not looking at the League table.

“I just want to win every game. I want to win the three points and then see where we are in the League.

“After this match we’ve got Millwall, which is another game we can win. We’re capable of beating anyone. Getting three points makes us more and more confident going into each game.

“We just want to get as high up the table as possible and if we win on Saturday – with it being a derby – it will give us even more confidence.”

Sean lauded the impact that manager Chris Powell has had on him this season:

“The Manager’s belief gives me more confidence to go out on to the pitch and perform.

“The Manager knows me as a player. He knows how I am on and off the pitch. It’s strange because it feels like I’ve known him for a lot longer than I have. He just keeps telling me to go out and carry on doing what I’m doing.

“Last season I felt like if I had a bad game I’d be straight out the team, whereas this season with the Manager I feel like I’ll be given another chance even if I don’t play that well.”

Now Scannell feels settled at ‘The Yorkshire Club’ and feels he is playing some of the best football of his career.

“At first because I was quite young I found it difficult to settle, but now I’ve got a good group of people around me and I’m settled in the area.

“Before I would go straight down to London after games but now I sometimes want people to come here instead!

“I feel like I’m currently playing the best football I’ve ever played.”
