VOTE FOR YOUR PLAYER OF THE YEAR

20 April 2015

Hargreaves Memorial Trophy voting open now

Voting for Huddersfield Town’s Hargreaves Memorial Player of the Year for the 2014/15 season is now open!

The Club has joined forces with the Huddersfield Examiner to set up a voting process from Monday 20 April to Thursday 23 April as you get to choose which Terrier is this year's winner.

The rules for this year's competition stipulate that players must have made 15 starts for Town in the 2014/15 season to warrant a place in the voting.

Former midfielder Adam Clayton collected the Hargreaves Memorial trophy last year with 60% of the vote, but it could be a much closer-run affair this year with plenty of players staking a claim for the award.

The award is named after Town supporters John and Edith Hargreaves and was presented by their granddaughters Sarah and Kelly last year.

There are plenty of contenders for the prestigious crown.

Nahki Wells is both Huddersfield Town's top goal-scorer in the league and all competitions this season (11 and 14 respectively) and he has contributed to the largest share of goals in his side's overall tally for the season having registered a further four assists to his 11 league strikes.

Jacob Butterfield will also be a strong contender having joined in the summer and flourished in midfield, registering eight assists as well as five goals in his maiden season.

Butterfield has been ably assisted in the centre of midfield by fellow joint-top appearance maker Conor Coady and Jonathan Hogg with the team functioning well when the three have lined up together.

Alongside Butterfield at the top of the assists chart is popular winger Sean Scannell, who has enjoyed a renaissance under Chris Powell's tutelage and has also contributed four goals this season, a tally bettered by only four other Town players.

On the other flank is Harry Bunn, who has enjoyed a stunning first full season at this level having scored nine goals to leave him second behind Wells in the top goal-scorers list.

Other players who can also boast strong cases include Tommy Smith, last year's Players' Young Player of the Year and someone who has made great strides this term; goalkeeper Alex Smithies, who will also be eyeing a third successive Players' Player of the Year crown and captain Mark Hudson, who has been an ever-present at the heart of defence.

The other players on this year's shortlist are last season's top goal-scorer James Vaughan, the 2013/2014 Goal of the Season winner Joel Lynch, central defender Murray Wallace and the popular former loan left-back Jack Robinson, whose season-long spell with the club from QPR was cut short due to a knee injury.
