The striker has been restricted to just 61 minutes of football in Town’s last 270 minutes of action due to injury and suspension.

“I’ve been a bit frustrated recently,” Nahki exclusively admitted to htafc.com. 

“I was that focused on the Leeds derby that I couldn’t sleep the night before the game – I wanted to win – but unfortunately I had to come off after 10 minutes. The defeat made that feeling even worse; I wanted to help my teammates, but I was unable to. That hurt.

“Getting sent-off early in the second-half against Millwall was frustrating. I think everyone thinks it wasn’t a second booking. That’s gone now – there’s nothing I can do about it – and I’m champing at the bit. 

“Hopefully I will be picked to play on Saturday. We’re playing a team that everyone wants to play against; you want to do your best against the best sides. If we can go away from home and beat one of the best teams in the league, it gives you the belief you can beat anyone.” 

That side is promotion-chasing AFC Bournemouth, but the Bermudian international believes that the 21 point gap between the two sides isn’t indicative of Town’s quality.

“They’re a good side in great form and are tipped to do great things at this level because of their manager and players, but I don’t see too many differences between us and them. It comes down to fine margins. 

“Their confidence and tails will be up and we should have the same mentality on the back of two good away wins. They’re tipped for promotion, whereas we don’t have that pressure on us. I’m looking forward to going there and playing on a good away pitch, which will let us show what we’re all about.” 

Neutrals may argue that Bournemouth’s 4-0 opening day victory at the John Smith’s Stadium illustrated the difference between the two sides, but Wells – who was one of just two players to start both that game and at Millwall last weekend alongside Alex Smithies – thinks the Terriers are much improved since August.

“There are a few similar faces still around. Without being down on any specific player, the Club has kept those that it thinks can help it progress. The Manager has his ways and thoughts and it’s nice to see us progressing.

“We’re in a much better state now compared to the first game, regardless of the loss in midweek. I don’t think that score-line told the true story of the match, but in fairness to Wolves they did what we didn’t – they took their chances.” 

Town also goes into Saturday’s fixture on the back of improved away form, with wins in the last two trips to Wigan Athletic and Millwall. 

He continued: “Improving our away form is very important to climb out of the 12th to 17th bracket we’ve been in this season. We have done that in the last two away matches thanks to two good away performances and I don’t see why we can’t go to Bournemouth and do the same. 

“Unfortunately we’ve had two defeats at home since; the home and away results seem to have switched. If we can put that right, there’s no reason we can’t kick on.”

The game at the Goldsands Stadium will be Town’s third in just eight days, with more midweek games on the way – something Wells is relishing.

“Some players like playing Tuesday then Saturday as they don’t particularly love to train, but I’ve changed my attitude towards training over the last couple of months and I’ve seen the benefits of it in my performances. 

“I don’t think anyone will turn down plenty of games though, because you enjoy them that much! That’s the chance to put the hard work in training into games.

“We have a tough period coming up now, but every team in the league is in a similar predicament. This a great time to go on a run, but if you lose a game you get the chance to bounce back in a few days. I’m confident we can do well.”
