Striker moves to the USA on loan
Huddersfield Town striker Martin Paterson has moved to the USA to join new Major League Soccer franchise Orlando City until 30 June 2015, subject to international clearance.
Northern Ireland international Martin is one of a number of players from the UK in the new Orlando City squad, which has been assembled by Head Coach Adrian Heath - the former Everton and Burnley midfielder.
The loan deal takes Paterson up to the end of his current contract at ‘The Yorkshire Club’; he signed a two year deal upon joining as a free agent in the summer 2013 following his departure from Burnley.
During his two seasons at the Club, the 27 year-old has started 17 games and made a further 12 substitute appearances, scoring six goals. However, he has only played 10 minutes of competitive football under Manager Chris Powell across three substitute appearances.
He has also had spells out on loan at League 1 sides Bristol City and Fleetwood Town.
Huddersfield Town Manager Chris Powell commented:
“Martin is a senior player and wants to be playing regularly at this stage in his life, which is something I cannot offer him at this Club. As a result, this move is a good one for everyone involved.
“Moving to Orlando is a great opportunity for Martin and his family, so on behalf of the Club I’d like to wish him well. He’s a great lad.”
Paterson is the fifth player to leave Town in the window so far, following on from Jon Stead (loan), Adam Hammill (loan), Danny Ward and Lee Peltier. The departures come after Chris Powell signalled in December that a busy window was expected (click HERE to read his comments) as he undertakes a reshaping of his squad in his first transfer window as manager.
The five departed players made a combined total of just nine starts during Powell’s 23 games in charge to date.
