Weekend goal-scorer Lynch on Watford & Boro
Having played a big role in Town’s win over Watford, Joel Lynch is now targeting an improvement in the team’s away record - starting at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
After missing six games with a groin problem, Lynch returned to Town’s line-up at the weekend to make the 200th league start of his career – scoring an amazing overhead kick to seal the 3-1 win.
“I’m sure a lot of people wrote us off ahead of Saturday’s game, but I thought the lads were first class. Going into the game everyone around the squad was positive and in the game the work ethic was excellent,” Joel told htafc.com.
“I’m sure everyone thought ‘here we go again’ when Watford pulled a goal back, we really stuck together and got through it.
“It was a great three points for us. In my eyes Watford are one of the best teams in the league, but I thought we were the better side; we outplayed them. We defeated a top Championship side that will be up there come the end of the season.”
On his acrobatic third goal of the season, Joel added:
“Everyone seems really happy for me. Obviously I’d been out for a while, so I think some of the lads had missed me!”
Joel’s inclusion was one of four changes manager Chris Powell made to his team and Joel believes the players coming into the side made an impact:
“I thought Oscar (Gobern) came in and did fantastically given it was his first start of the season for us; he played a key role in the second goal. His performance summed up our game.
“The lads who are coming into the team are doing exactly what is asked of them. As long as everyone comes in and gives 100%, I think we’ll continue to get results.”
After a good run of late – particularly at home – the former Nottingham Forest defender is now targeting an improvement in the team’s away form ahead of games Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic.
He continued: “We’ve got seven points from the last possible nine and that’s a little run we want to keep going.
“Now we have to be more solid on the road, because it’s all about getting points away. Our home record has been really good this season, but the next thing we have to overcome is the away form.
“Everyone is happy at the minute, so we’re going into Saturday’s game in a positive frame of mind.”
