Having coming on as a substitute in Town’s last league encounter, Lolley made an immediate impact – netting a superb long range strike to earn his side a deserved point.

Now he wants to play his part if called upon by Chris Powell when the Terriers travel to Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

“We still want to end the season strongly with as many points as possible, so I knew I had a job to do when I came on. I’m thankful I did, but I needed the team to push on with me and get me the ball and I thought everyone performed brilliantly.

“I need to prove that I can do it at this level and that when I come on, I can make an impact. Every time I come on, the Manager has given me the freedom to play my own game and the fans have always been right behind me. I can never fault the fans for how they’ve supported me, so it was nice to give them something back.

“It was nice to get my first home goal on Saturday; it’s been a long time coming, so I’m happy.”

Having made a similar impact at the end of the 2013/14 season with a goal and standout performance in a 4-1 win at Watford, Joe admitted he would have wanted to play more this term:

“It almost feels quite familiar! Hopefully next year I can stay injury free and really push on, like I wanted to this season. 

“It’s been frustrating. I picked up injuries early on in the season and then I waited a while to get my chance. When it finally came I think I did fairly well, but then again I picked up a little knock and that set me back a few games. 

“That’s been the story of my season, but I’m just happy to get back onto the pitch and score my first home goal. Hopefully this time I can build on it over the summer and into next year.”

The Terriers travel to Bloomfield Road on Saturday trying to extend their six game unbeaten run, whereas Blackpool are without a win in 10 fixtures. Despite this, Lolley and his teammates will be taking nothing for granted.

“They’ve got their troubles off the pitch and on the pitch, but we’ll just concentrate on the game and be as professional as possible to pick up the three points.”

That will give the team great momentum going into the next campaign, Lolley continued:

“I know as a team we’re ambitious and we really do want to push into the top half of the table next year. As a squad, we feel we’re definitely capable of that and we’ve got the players. Hopefully we can really kick on.”

“I’ve got a plan over the closed season, so I’m going to work hard and I’m going to do a few things. I really want to come back next year and hopefully get myself straight in the team.

“I think in the first year you just don’t realise how tough it actually is on your body. Obviously you have lads who’ve played full-time since they’ve been 16, training twice a day for the last five or six years. Then I’ve had a year of that at my age, so it’s almost like I’ve got to catch up to that and the levels they’re at.

“I know looking back to a few years ago, I’m very lucky to be in the position that I am. I’ve done well to get myself to this position, but it almost does feel like it’s starting again and now I’ve got to try and kick on.”
