Goalkeeper looks ahead to Saturday’s game

The Huddersfield Town squad knows that it is capable of winning any game if it performs to its maximum, according to goalkeeper Jed Steer.
The Terriers may go into the game on the back of three straight Sky Bet Championship defeats, but the Aston Villa loanee told htafc.com that the general level of performance has maintained the squad’s belief in its work under Head Coach David Wagner.
“In some of the recent games we deserved a point, if not all three, but at the end of the day you have to look at the results. We’ve not won in a few games now, even though the performances have been there for the majority of the time.
“We’re all still confident and we’ll go into Saturday’s game knowing we have a good chance of picking up all three points if we perform as we can.
“Everyone in the changing room knows that the way we want to play works; we all enjoy it and want to stick by it. The amount of chances we create is brilliant, but we could just do with sticking a couple more away and being a bit tighter at our own end as well.”
Steer continued: “We might want to take a few more chances, but equally we haven’t kept a clean sheet for a while now. We’re a team and we’re work together towards that.
“It’s simple, but our main aims are to score more goals and concede fewer! We just want to win games and hopefully we can put that right on Saturday.”
As Town’s last line of defence, Jed’s focus is understandably on the ‘goals conceded’ column of the table – and he’s keen to see the average reduce.
“We work hard on the training pitch, doing a lot of work defensively, but the Championship is a very competitive league and you have to do very well to keep a clean sheet. It’s always tough.
“We play to attack and score loads of goals, but we have to make sure it’s right at our own end as well.
“Obviously I want to keep more clean sheets, as that’s how goalkeepers are judged. I know I need to play well every week and perform to stay in the team, which is why I’m here until the end of the season.
“Playing games is massive for any young goalkeeper, because experience is something that everyone values in that position. It’s been brilliant for me to come out to the Championship after my stint in League 1 last season and I’d like to think I’ve done alright.
“Hopefully, come Saturday, we can get three points and pick up that clean sheet as well.”
