Butterfield previews Tuesday’s game at Brentford
Jacob Butterfield is targeting a response to the weekend defeat when the Terriers face Brentford on Tuesday night; 7.45pm kick-off at Griffin Park.
“It’s a big game tomorrow, because we need to show a response after a disappointing display on Saturday. We’re going there in a positive frame of mind, looking to get a result,” Jacob explained exclusively to htafc.com.
“The nature of the Championship seems to be that you get a setback when you start to progress up the table. We’re one of around 18 clubs in the same position! We’re doing alright overall though.
“You can never overreact and get too down after a bad display, just as you shouldn’t get too jovial about a good one. The games come thick and fast and you have to try and be consistent throughout and see where you are come the end of the season.”
Town defeated Brentford when the two sides met at the John Smith’s Stadium earlier in the season and the midfielder thinks the squad has nothing to fear going into the midweek game:
“We’ve shown how capable we are against a lot of the top teams this season - we just need to do the right things on any given day. That includes playing at a tempo that suits us and get the best out of ourselves. If we do that, we are a match for anyone. Hopefully we can produce that kind of performance on Tuesday.”

Although very disappointed at Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Charlton, Jacob believes that tough day will be a good experience in the long run for Town’s emerging talents:
“We have players developing well here, but we still have a young core here and sometimes we can be a bit naïve in games. I’m one of the more experienced lads and I’m only 24; I’m still learning a lot about the game and this league. It is a learning curve for us all.
“Hopefully this year, which has seen some young lads play a lot of football, will benefit the Club in the long term. Two or three years down the line, these lads will be top quality Championship footballers.
“Sometimes we need to respect that we are the away side and not try to win the game in the first minute. We need to learn to do the right things; when to go for the jugular and when to keep our shape. We need to put that together and produce more good performances between now and the end of the season, which will help us finish as high as possible.”
