TRANSFER: TOWN SIGNS IVAN PAUREVIC

7 June 2016

Croatian midfielder signs a three year contract

- HTAFC signs Croatian Ivan Paurevic
- 24 year-old joins for an undisclosed fee from Russian side FC Ufa
- Three year contract for the near 6' 5" tall midfielder

Huddersfield Town has today completed the signing of Ivan Paurevic from Russian club FC Ufa for an undisclosed fee, pending international clearance.

Paurevic, who stands at just under 6’ 5” tall, has put pen to paper on a three year contract with the Terriers.

Ivan plays mainly in central midfield, but can also operate at centre back, and will turn 25 years old on 1 July.

Born in Germany, he is well known to Town’s Head Coach David Wagner; he was a virtual ever-present in David’s Borussia Dortmund II side that won the Regionalliga West title in 2011/12.

Ivan has chosen to play international football for Croatia, who he represented four times at Under-21 level.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“I talked last season about keeping the team needing a good balance between attack and defence and Ivan is a player who will help us do this.

“He’s a great team player, with good technique and football intelligence. He’s also a good physical presence in the middle of the pitch.

“Just as importantly, I know he is a great character from our time together at Dortmund. He will fit into our group very well.”

Paurevic was born in Essen and turned professional at Borussia Dortmund, where he scored two goals in 44 appearances for David Wagner’s U23 side that won gained promotion to the 3. Liga in a dominating 2011/12 campaign.

However, Ivan moved even higher up the German football pyramid that summer, completing a transfer to Bundesliga club Fortuna Düsseldorf.

He played for their second team initially, but went onto make four top flight appearances in his debut season. Ivan got more game time when the Flingeraner were relegated to the 2. Liga that summer, scoring twice in 18 appearances.

The tall midfielder made the move to FC Ufa of the Rosgosstrakh Russian Football Championship in 2014 and has been a key figure in the engine room, making over 60 top flight appearances over two seasons; scoring five goals.

Two of those goals came in FC Ufa’s last game of the 2015/16 season, with the resulting 3-1 home win over Spartak Moscow securing the Club’s position in the top flight for the next campaign.

In total, Paurevic has scored nine goals in 138 competitive appearances ahead of his move to West Yorkshire.

An exclusive first interview with Town new boy Ivan will appear on HTTV shortly!
