Chris previews Tuesday night’s game at Brentford
After Saturday’s disappointing performance and result at Charlton Athletic, Manager Chris Powell has called on his Town side to ‘do themselves justice’ in Tuesday night’s game at Brentford.
Town’s team has shown an ability to respond from a setback all season and now it needs to bounce back once more against the promotion-chasing Bees at Griffin Park.
“As is always the case in the Sky Bet Championship, there’s always another game right around the corner,” Chris told htafc.com.
“We planned for Charlton, but we also had one eye on the Brentford game on Tuesday. Now we are focussed on this game and doing our best to get a result.
“We’ll take stock on the boys and see how they are fitness-wise after the long journey to and from London. We’ll plan and prepare as always and approach the game with real energy. Hopefully we will do ourselves a bit more justice than we did on Saturday.
“Brentford lost on Saturday too, so they might be looking at how they can change one or two things.”
His opposite number at Brentford, Mark Warburton, has been the subject of much press attention in recent weeks as it was revealed he will leave his post at the end of the season and Powell believes that news could push the Bees onto success:
“In one way, that situation could galvanise the group and we might have seen that in a couple of the recent results they’ve had, despite the setback on Saturday. They had a setback at Charlton recently too, but responded well.
“I’m sure Mark will be getting on with the job at hand and preparing his players for the way they like to play, seeing where that takes them.
“We played very well against them earlier in the season when they arrived in Huddersfield absolutely flying. At the time we needed a result and we got it, scoring some good goals. We’ll be looking to emulate that.”
Powell rated Nahki Wells (shoulder) as 50-50 for Tuesday night’s game, but admitted he will be without defender Joel Lynch (groin) for the trip to London.
“Joel Lynch won’t be ready for Brentford; at the best he has an outside chance for Rotherham, but if not it will be beyond that.”
