POWELL: WE’LL GO TO WIN & ENTERTAIN

Chris comments on Saturday’s game at Blackpool

Huddersfield Town Manager Chris Powell wants his side to finish its 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship season with a flourish when it takes on Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

Ahead of the fixture (12.15pm kick-off on Saturday), Powell confirmed that Reece James (groin) should return from injury to be fit – but another player will be missing.

“Hopefully Reece will be back for Saturday. We shut him down this week in terms of training to try and get him fit. He will train on Friday and if he comes through that he will be up for selection.

“We may be missing Jonathan Hogg; he’s picked up a slight knee problem and I won’t put him at risk with it being our last game.

“They are the only problems we have at the moment. James Vaughan and Harry Bunn have trained all week after playing off the bench upon their returns, so they’re up for selection.

“We are trying to make sure that the players are in as good as condition as they can be to get their rest in and then follow their off season programs and be ready for the beginning of July.

“We pretty much have a full complement of senior players and ill add a few younger players to the squad as well and decide where we go.”

On which members of Town’s Development Squad might travel to Bloomfield Road, Chris added:

“Duane Holmes, Phillip Billing, William Boyle and Joe Wilkinson have been training with us. That will continue and if I hope to have all or a few of them a part of it and hopefully play.”

On Saturday’s opponents Blackpool, who have already been relegated to League 1, Chris commented:

“In some respects Blackpool have known their fate for the majority of the season, but they’ve kept going - which is right.

“I watched them a few weeks back before we played Birmingham and they were really good on the evening. I was quite impressed by the freedom they played with and I know Lee has chopped and changed his side so many times to get the right form.

“Now I think Lee will be looking at what players will be involved with them next year. I’m sure they will be looking to end on a positive note if they can.”

However, Powell was very firm with the target he has set for his side this weekend:

“We’re going there to carry on our run. We know exactly what kind of season they’ve had and Lee (Clark) is someone we all know well, but that’s not our concern.

“We have to make sure we play our football the way we have been, win the game and entertain our 2,300 fans who we will have in the stadium. I’m sure they will be in a lively mood – it will be a good, positive atmosphere – and we want to do things correctly for them.

“I think a positive environment is massive for any football club. We’ve got that here and I want that to continue.”
