TEENAGE WINGER CHARLTON SIGNS

30 June 2015

Trialist joins Development Squad permanently

- 18 year-old winger Callum Charlton joins Huddersfield Town
- Youngster previously at local side Brighouse Town
- Callum impressed in six week trial with the Terriers

Huddersfield Town has today completed the signing of teenager Callum Charlton on a one year contract, with a further year’s option in the Club’s favour.

The 18 year-old had a six week trial at the Club throughout April and May 2015, playing five games for the Under-18s and making one start for the Under-21s.

He will now join the Club’s Development Squad permanently and work under Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn during the 2015/16 season.

Charlton, who doesn’t turn 19 until November, hails from Bradford and joins the Terriers from Evo-Stik League Division One North club Brighouse Town, where he played on a non-contract basis. He has previously played for local sides Eccleshill United and Liversedge.

Frankie Bunn explained to htafc.com:

“Callum did well during his trial period with the Club and has potential that is work exploring, so we’re delighted he’s joined us permanently ahead of the 2015/16 season.

“He possesses genuine pace – a good attribute for any attacking player – trickery and decent delivery, but he’s quite a raw prospect at the moment. We already saw improvement during his short spell with us and I’m looking forward to his development in training and in matches. We’ll give him all the tools, help and opportunity to mature as a footballer here.

Town’s Academy Manager Mark Lillis added:

“Recruitment into the Academy doesn’t simply take place in the lower age brackets and Callum’s arrival follows on from the likes of Flo Bojaj, who is now part of the Under-21 group, and Paul Mullin, who is now forging a career at Morecambe.

“It’s been an important strategic focus of the Academy – and Club during its New Era – to forge closer links with local football clubs and this evidences one of the benefits of that.”
