REPORT: BRISTOL CITY 1-4 TOWN U21s

11 April 2016

Third straight win for Frankie Bunn’s youngsters

- Town U21s win at Bristol City
- Third straight win for Frankie Bunn's team
- Rekeil Pyke (2), Fraser Horsfall & Lewis O'Brien score

Town’s Under-21 side put four past hosts Bristol City in the Professional Development League 2 on Monday afternoon to secure a third straight win.

The victory means that the Terriers would secure a second PDL2 North title in three seasons with three games to spare if second placed Sheffield United loses at Crystal Palace on Thursday.

Frankie Bunn welcomed back Under-21 regular Jacob Hanson to his starting XI after a three game absence for the second year scholar due to a hamstring injury, whilst fellow Under-18 scholars Lewis O’Brien, Rekeil Pyke and overage goalkeeper Lloyd Allinson also started.

Bristol City also fielded an overage ‘keeper, with 28 year-old Frank Fielding starting.

However, it wasn’t to be a happy afternoon for the City custodian as he rolled his ankle inside six minutes and Town put four past his replacement to secure a third straight win.

The first came inside 11 minutes, when powerful striker Pyke (pictured above) netted a close-range header for his ninth of the Under-21 campaign.

The hosts did have a big chance to equalise 10 minutes later when striker Mikael Ndjoli was brought down in the box; he stepped up, but Allinson saved the penalty to maintain Town’s advantage.

Centre back Fraser Horsfall curled home Town’s second for his second goal in just three games in the 34th minute before 17 year-old O’Brien netted the pick of the game’s goals from range with just two minutes of the half remaining.

Pyke will claim a second goal when Town made it 4-0 on the hour mark; his header from a free kick delivered into the penalty area went in off a combination of the woodwork and a defender.

Coach Bunn will have been annoyed to see his team let the clean sheet slip away when Jake Andrews netted a late consolation two minutes into second half added time.

Highlights of the game will appear on HTTV on Tuesday!
