REPORT: BOLTON 0-1 TOWN U21s

15 February 2016

Flo Bojaj's header gives the young Terriers the win

- Town's Under-21s beat hosts Bolton Wanderers
- Striker Flo Bojaj scores the only goal
- Highlights on HTTV on Tuesday

An eighth goal of the Under-21 season from top scorer Flo Bojaj gave Frankie Bunn’s Development Squad a 1-0 win against hosts Bolton Wanderers in the Professional Development League 2 North on Monday evening.

Bojaj, who was an unused substitute for David Wagner’s First Team during the weekend’s Sky Bet Championship win at Nottingham Forest, headed home his first goal since 4 January to secure the three points at the Lancashire FA’s ground.

The victory re-established a three point lead at the top of the table over Sheffield United, with Town having two games in hand also.

The hosts played the maximum of three overage players in the game; former Charlton right back Lawrie Wilson, 23 year-old Czech midfielder Filip Twardzik and 22 year-old centre back Quade Taylor.

As usual Bunn’s side had no overage members, but it did feature one change to the starting XI that progressed to the semi-final of the Premier League Cup a week ago; Fraser Horsfall replacing Danny Kane at centre back, who was missing with a groin injury.

The Terriers started well and created a couple of early chances; Regan Booty sending a free kick well over before Bojaj’s low drive was kept out well by home goalkeeper Harry Campbell.

Two minutes later, Bolton’s goalkeeper had to push away another effort; this time from Jordy Hiwula, who played in the number 10 slot once again.

The only goal of the game followed in the 22nd minute, with Bojaj heading Booty’s corner home at the far post.

The first of two disallowed Bolton goals came in the 32nd minute after striker George Newell poked home Tom Walker’s drilled cross from an offside position.

Campbell made another good save to deny Town’s young Irishman Ronan Coughlan early in the second half, but Town custodian Tadhg Ryan matched that just after the hour; keeping out Newell’s glancing header from Wilson’s free kick.

Bolton saw a second goal chalked off with 13 mins left; after Walker’s initial effort was saved by Ryan, Newell was offside again as he followed-up.

Hiwula was denied by the goalkeeper one-on-one with two minutes left, but Ryan secured the win with the game’s last meaningful action – tipping over Walker’s dipping free kick.

Highlights of the game will appear on HTTV on Tuesday!
