Huddersfield Town has today appointed Steve Weaver as the Club’s new Academy Manager.

Steve brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role having worked in youth development for the majority of the past 25 years and will be tasked with leading the Huddersfield Town Academy into the 2016/17 season and beyond.

A holder of the UEFA Pro License and the Advanced Youth Award, Steve worked for almost six years as a Development Coach at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he was appointed to bridge the gap between Under-21 and First Team football.

Beforehand, Steve had spent 20 years at Wrexham, where he turned to coaching after his playing days were cut short by injury. He was Head of Youth at the Club between 2002 and 2007, having previously worked as Assistant Academy Director and Centre of Excellence Director. During his time at the Racecourse Ground, Steve worked alongside Town’s current Head of Football Operations Stuart Webber.

Weaver has also worked in the Professional Development phase (16-18 year-olds) at Manchester City, as a scout at both Ipswich Town and Blackburn Rovers and as a part-time Coach Educator for the English and Welsh Football Associations.

Huddersfield Town’s Head of Football Operations Stuart Webber commented:

“I’m very happy to welcome Steve to Huddersfield Town in what is a very important appointment for the Club.

“Steve brings vast experience of what it takes to develop young footballers to play at First Team level at a vital time for our Academy. He’s a man I know well from our time together at Wrexham and I believe his knowledge and methods will really add to the Club.

“There’s nothing that makes fans and staff prouder than seeing local, home-grown footballers succeed on the First Team stage and we must do everything we can to make our Academy model work for this Club. Steve will look at all areas of the Academy, from top to bottom, as we try to bring it to a higher level.

“As the Chairman has stated recently, we need the Academy to make a big contribution in order to justify its means, which ultimately means producing players for our First Team. Together with Steve, we will clarify exactly what we want the Academy to achieve and how we will do it.”
