New players to start two year scholarships next term
- HTAFC's 2016/17 scholars confirmed- Seven players to begin two year scholarships
- Academy Goal of the Year also presented
Seven Under-16 players will begin two year scholarships with the Huddersfield Town Academy from the start of the 2016/17 season, with the goal to eventually become professional footballers.
Starting from next season, the new scholars will form Town’s Under-18 group alongside the current set of first year scholars to complete a full programme of fixtures and full-time training under Professional Development Coaches Tony Carss and Leigh Bromby.
Alongside their on the field activity, they will also complete an apprenticeship in sporting excellent programme, headed by the LFE and Town.
The new scholars were presented to the crowd at the John Smith’s Stadium during the half time interval of last Saturday’s ‘Academy Game’ vs Hull City.
Details of the incoming first year scholars are below:
George Danaher
Striker
A left footed striker who has also played at centre back, George joined Town from Dukinfield Juniors at Under-13 level.
Hailing from Stalybridge, he has already made his Under-18 debut for the Terriers – scoring once in one start and five substitute appearances so far this season.
Olly Dyson
Midfielder
Olly is based in Normanton and joined the Town Academy at Under-9 level from local junior side Normanton Athletic.
A central midfield player, who can operate either as a holding player or in a more advanced role, Olly has recently established himself in the Under-18 side, scoring once in six starts and one substitute appearance.
Sam Gibson
Defender
Sam is equally at home as a full back on either flank and has already made his Under-18 debut for the Club, making a total of 10 starts and three substitute appearances so far this season.
Like teammate Olly Dyson, Sam also hails from Normanton. He joined Town at Under-9 level from Rothwell Juniors in Leeds.
Isaac Marriott
Midfielder
A holding central midfield player, Isaac is from Almondbury in Huddersfield and initially joined the Academy in the Under-9 age group from Longcroft Lions.
He’s another player to have made his Under-18 debut for the Club this season, making a solitary substitute appearance to date.
Ryan Schofield
Goalkeeper
The scholarship offer caps off a great year for Ryan, who has already started his first Under-21 game for the Club on top of five starts and one substitute appearance for the Under-18 side.
Ryan, who has also trained with England at a goalkeeping camp in January 2016, joined Town at Under-9 level from Lepton Highlanders.
Dom Tear
Midfielder
Dom is based in Knaresborough and initially joined Huddersfield Town as an Under-14 player, having previously played for Harrogate Railway.
Tear, who usually plays on the wing, has scored three goals in just four starts and nine substitute appearances for the Under-18s already.
Jordan Williams
Defender
Jordan, who usually plays at centre back but can also feature at right back, is another player to enjoy a terrific year, having played for England Under-17s and Town’s Under-21s already.
Jordan is a Meltham native and joined the Terriers at Under-10 level from junior club Meltham Athletic.
The Jack Waterworth Trophy for the Academy Goal of the Season was also presented at Saturday’s game, with second year scholar Jack Boyle receiving the trophy for finishing this 11 pass move at Bolton Wanderers in September.
