Unbeaten League record finally falls

After dropping just two points in the opening 14 Under-21 Professional Development League 2 games of the season, Town’s Development Squad finally met defeat at Sheffield United on Tuesday afternoon.

Steve Eyre’s side has already secured top spot in the table ahead of today’s game at the Blades’ Shirecliffe training ground but having won 13 straight games after an opening day draw at Nottingham Forest, the Terriers recoded their first loss – a 2-1 away defeat.

Eyre named two overage players in the line-up for the game – midfielder Anton Robinson and former Sheffield United striker Jonathan Stead – whereas fellow former Blade Harry Bunn and fit-again January recruit Joe Lolley also started.

However, it was United’s Academy forward Jake Eyre who opened the scoring inside five minutes with a neat finish into the bottom corner of Lloyd Allinson’s goal.

Town quickly hit back through the experienced Stead, who netted his second goal in as many Development Squad games to restore parity in the scoreline in the 19th minute with an acrobatic back post finish.

The scores were level at the interval and Bunn missed a great opportunity to give his side the lead early in the second-half before the hosts netted the winning goal from the penalty spot. Under-21 Captain Jordan Sinnott, once again playing at right back, conceded the spot kick, which was converted by United midfielder Elliott Whitehouse in the 66th minute.

Town’s team:
Lloyd Allinson; Paul Mullin, Joe Wright, Matt Crooks, Jordan Sinnott (c); Joe Lolley, Anton Robinson, Sondre Tronstad, Harry Bunn; Daniel Carr, Jonathan Stead

Substitutes:
Ian Bennett, Mikey Starkey, Jack Senior, Sheiden Rodgers
