RIDEHALGH SIGNS ONE YEAR CONTRACT

20 May 2013

Robins earmarks ‘important season’ for Liam

Liam Ridehalgh has signed the one year contract offered to him by Huddersfield Town at the conclusion of the season.

The Academy graduate, who has now made almost 100 senior career appearances, made his Huddersfield Town debut in the 2010/11 season – making 26 appearances in League 1 for the Terriers due to a long-term injury to Gary Naysmith.

Subsequently his First Team experience has been furthered through several loan spells. Liam spent the first three months of the 2011/12 season on loan at League 2 Swindon Town, making 13 appearances, before moving up a division to League 1 Chesterfield for the second half of the campaign, making a further 20 starts and scoring his first senior goal.

The left back returned to Chesterfield, now in League 2, for the first three months of the 2012/13 season, making 16 more appearances, before joining Rotherham United and making 20 appearances, enjoying promotion from League 2 for the second time in the process.

Having turned 22 years old in April, Liam has put pen to paper at Town until 30 June 2014 and Manager Mark Robins believes the 2013/14 season is a vital one for the defender.

“The next year is potentially very important for Liam’s development and I’m looking forward to getting a close look at him during pre-season, as during my time he has been gaining experience through his most recent loan spell at Rotherham.

“We have very good competition for places at left back thanks to the likes of Calum Woods, Paul Dixon and new recruit Jake Carroll and Liam’s challenge is to come back to the Club and put his marker down.”

Liam added:

“I’ve been out on loan for the last two seasons and I think my development has gone pretty well. I’ve played almost 100 games now and been a part of two promotions, so I’m a much more confident player than the one Huddersfield Town fans saw a couple of years ago. In every game you learn something new and get better and I think I’m much improved.

“Now I want to settle down and play for the Club; it would mean so much to me, as this is where I’ve learned my trade. I’ve only worked under Mark Robins for a week when I came back from Rotherham at the end of the year, so I have an opportunity to come back in pre-season and work hard to make an impact.

“I’ve played quite a lot of games in Leagues 1 and 2, so hopefully my next challenge is to tackle the Championship.”
