“It was nice to get 90 minutes tonight, but the result is disappointing,” he told htafc.com. “They (Nottingham Forest) are a strong side and I think the first goal killed the tie. It was fairly even until that point and then from it we had to chase the game.”

James Vaughan’s own goal gave Forest the lead before Henri Lansbury put the tie beyond Town.

“He (Vaughan) is upset, but Lills (Mark Lillis) has told him not to dwell on it, he will score plenty at the other end. I asked him what he was trying to do, but he couldn’t come up with an answer! I think he was trying to nod it over the bar, but things like that happen in football. He is a strong character and I am sure he won’t let it affect him.”

Town’s attentions now turn back to league action with a trip to Watford on Saturday. 

“The atmosphere is good within the group,” said Murphy. “We have a young bunch of players who have plenty of energy and quality. Mark Robins’ departure was a shock to all of us, but Lills along with Steve Thompson and Eyre are good characters and the players have responded to them. We don’t know who will fill the vacancy permanently; we can’t change what happens, all we can do is effect what happens on the pitch.

“Everybody in the changing room has experienced a change in manager before and our only focus is to play football, which is what we are paid to do. It doesn’t matter who the manager is, every player, including myself, wants to get out onto that pitch.”
