EYRE: IT WAS A FANTASTIC WORKOUT

1 August 2012

Development Coach encouraged despite result

Huddersfield Town’s Development Coach Steve Eyre was in positive mood following his side’s clash against Premier League giants Liverpool earlier today.

Town’s team featured the likes of Murray Wallace, who today received a call-up to the Scotland under-21’s, and a new face in trialist Scott Kay, formerly of Manchester City and Macclesfield.

Despite losing the match 2-0, Steve was pleased with the efforts of his young Terriers: “It was a fantastic workout for the team and an opportunity for the young players to play alongside the first team players.

“We started the game under large amounts of pressure from Liverpool, but we battled hard and enjoyed some decent periods of possession during the 90 minutes. Players such as Murray Wallace, Liam Ridehalgh, Chris Atkinson and Jimmy Spencer are close to first team selection so for the young lads to play with them is highly beneficial.

“The facilities at Liverpool’s Academy in Kirkby are fantastic and the calibre of player within Liverpool’s squad provided us with a very tough test.

“Liverpool is brilliant example to follow in terms of the infrastructure they have and we delighted that we are able to compete with them.”

Town’s Development Team is next in action at Radcliffe Borough on Friday (7pm) where fans can watch the game free of charge. Don’t worry if you can’t get there though, as we will be bringing fans live match updates via our twitter feed @htafcdotcom!
