LILLIS IN CHARGE ON SATURDAY

20 August 2014

Caretaker Manager to stay for visit of Charlton

Mark Lillis will once again take charge of Huddersfield Town’s First Team in Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship game at home to Charlton Athletic; 3pm kick-off at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Town’s Caretaker Manager led the team in its excellent 2-1 win at Reading on Tuesday evening and is looking for a repeat performance for this weekend’s visit of the in-form Addicks.

“It was a fantastic feeling,” Mark said of Tuesday night’s win.

“We needed to stand up and be counted last night and the players did that for the Club – we just gave the players a little bit of belief and guidance. It was a great performance and good night for everyone at Huddersfield Town and for our fans.

“It has been a tough start, with three away trips, but we’ve come away with a win at Reading, who will be up there challenging.

“We now need to keep the same level of commitment going forward, but that has to be the norm. It’s a no brainer - as players and a team you have to give 100% effort and commitment and do your job to the best of your ability. The players all did that last night.”

Mark will be in the dugout once again on Saturday and is looking forward to taking Caretaker charge on home soil.

Mark explained: “I had a call from the Chairman on the way back from Reading and he asked me to take the team again on Saturday. It will be special as it’s a home game. Seeing all the supporters walking to the ground on my way in will get the adrenaline going and coming down the tunnel will be great.

“We have an exciting young team at this Club with lots of talent and that’s a real reason to be positive about the Club’s future. I looked around our dressing room last night and you see so many exciting young players wanting to give everything for the shirt, but they need the fans to believe in them.

“We’re playing a good team in Charlton that’s coming off three wins on the bounce, but we’ll focus on our own game. We’ll get the players putting a shift in, going into tackles and playing good football and I know our fans will get behind that. We’re looking to get the fans off their seats and I’m sure they will support us.”
