PELTIER RETURNS TO TOWN

23 June 2014

Experienced Championship defender bolsters Robins’ squad

Lee Peltier is back at Huddersfield Town!

Three years after departing, 27 year-old Lee has today joined ‘The Yorkshire Club’, signing a three year contract on a free transfer after leaving Leeds United earlier today.

Peltier, who was Players’ Player of the Season in his debut 2009/10 season at Town, returns to the Club having made 113 Championship appearances during the past three years for Leicester City, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.

Lee originally arrived at Town at the start of the ‘New Era’ under Chairman Dean Hoyle, joining from Yeovil Town during the summer of 2009. He made 103 starts for the Club during his two year stay, becoming a pivotal part of the team – largely performing at full back but also in the centre of defence and as a holding midfield player. His last appearance in the blue and white stripes was the 2011 Play-Off Final.

In June 2011, Lee left Town to join Championship promotion favourites Leicester City for a reported fee of £1million, becoming Sven-Goran Eriksson’s first signing as he geared up for a charge to the Premier League. In his single season at the King Power Stadium, he made 40 Championship appearances as the Foxes finished ninth in the table.

‘Pelts’ moved to Championship club Leeds United the following summer and immediately established himself in Neil Warnock’s team, who quickly named him as their Captain.

With former Town Manager Warnock having widely been expected to take over as Nottingham Forest manager, Lee completed an Emergency Loan move to the City Ground in March 2014. Although Warnock ultimately did not follow, Peltier started all remaining seven Championship games as Forest narrowly failed to break into the Play-Offs.

Lee will now join Town on a three year contract, keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2017.

Huddersfield Town Manager Mark Robins commented:

“I don’t need to tell Huddersfield Town fans about the qualities that Lee Peltier brings to the squad, but what I will say is that he’s returning to the Club a far better, more experienced, seasoned Championship player. Equally I believe Lee is joining a Club that has taken massive strides forward since the day he left and I am sure that is something that he will say himself having been back and looked around last week.

“He originally left the Club in search of Championship football, which was understandable given his level of performance and desire to progress his career, and now returns to us having made over 100 appearances at the top end of the Championship and at an age where he is only just nearing his peak.

“Lee had the option to go to some other high profile Championship clubs this summer, but he knows this Club and particularly its people and certainly was attracted by the stability and ambition at the Club. He wants to be a part of it as we continue to progress forward.

“I met Lee and he is a strong, mentally tough, determined character who will add to our squad on the pitch and in the dressing room. Lee has a versatility about his game and can play in various roles, being equally comfortable in a back five or a back four. I’m delighted that he has become our latest summer recruit.”
