Lynch discusses his decision to extend his Town stay
Joel Lynch believes Huddersfield Town is going places – and he wants to be a part of it.
The Wales international has this week put pen to paper on a two year contract extension that will keep him at the Club until the summer of 2017 (click HERE for full info) and today cited the ambition and stability of the Terriers as a key reasons behind his decision.
“I could have run my previous contract down in the final year and assessed my options, but I feel like the Club is going in the right direction and is well run and stable,” Joel told htafc.com.
“It comes down to the Chairman and the way the Club work; it is an ambitious place. The Manager has made a lot of changes in the staff in the early part of the off season and I think that shows that everyone will do whatever it takes to keep progressing; those changes were made to try and make us better and as players we know and welcome that.
“Getting promoted to the Championship in 2012 wasn’t the end goal - this Club is only going to get bigger and better and I want to be a part of it.
“At my age and with Financial Fair Play kicking in, I think it is massive to have the security of a long-term contract. I am settled in the area but until now I’ve been renting and I’ve decided to buy a house in Huddersfield.”

Manager Mark Robins believes that 26 year-old Joel can still improve – a view Lynch shares. In the short term, his goal is to enjoy a good pre-season under Town’s new-look coaching team.
“I’ve spoken to the Manager and we both think there is a lot more to come from me. I think I did well when I was in the team last year, but I was a little unlucky as I ended up needing surgery and it knocked me back a bit.
“I can definitely improve further and I should only get better over the next couple of years. As I’ve said the coaching staff has changed a bit and everything I’ve heard about the likes of Steve Thompson and Al Stewart has been good.
“I worked with Steve Eyre last season and I’ve been among the young players here during some of their sessions, so I know exactly how he works. I think he will be a massively positive influence on the First Team.
“I want to start the season absolutely flying and that comes from a good pre-season. We sorted out my groin problem last season and that feels brilliant now – I’ve been doing some work on it during the summer. I want to perform so well that the Manager puts my name down first on the team sheet every week; that’s my aim and that’s my responsibility to achieve.”
