SPENCER SIGNS FOR SCUNTHORPE

22 August 2013

Striker joins League 2 side on loan

Huddersfield Town striker Jimmy Spencer, 21, has joined Sky Bet League 2 side Scunthorpe United on a Standard Loan until 5 January 2014.

The striker appeared as a second half substitute against Cardiff but has not featured in the match day squad since.

He spent some time on loan at Brentford, though, where he made two substitute appearances before picking up an injury, which kept him out for the remainder of the season.

Spencer was back for Town’s pre-season and impressed during the Development Squad’s first competitive match of the season at Nottingham Forest.

He has already gained first team experience through three separate spells out on loan; initially at non-league Northwich Victoria in 2009/10 before season-long moves to npower League 2 sides Morecambe, Cheltenham Town and most recently Brentford, all during the last three years

Town Manager Mark Robins was keen for Jimmy to move out on loan and play regular first team football.

“Jimmy is fully fit following an injury and a complete pre-season but he now needs to get back into first team football and match action,” Robins told htafc.com.

“He enjoyed success at League 2 level with Cheltenham during a previous loan spell so it should prove as a good starting point.

“Scunthorpe are a team who we expect to be pushing for promotion this season so it should prove a good challenge for Jimmy. They are also fairly close to home which means that we can monitor his progress closely.”

The Iron opened up their campaign with victory over Mansfield before earning back to back draws against Bristol Rovers and Dagenham Redbridge respectively.
