Youngsters in action for loan sides
Huddersfield Town youngsters Duane Holmes and Jake Carroll were in action over the weekend for Bury and Partick Thistle respectively.
Holmes joined League 2 Bury on a Youth Loan until 5 January, 2015 on the morning of the Shakers’ match against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
The 19 year-old was a 79th minute substitute for Nicky Adams as Bury beat Stanley 2-1 courtesy of goals from Danny Rose and Danny Mayor.
Holmes spoke with the Bury Times after the victory and said: “I want experience of playing week in, week out and just really to learn from a good manager, like the manager here. He (David Flitcroft) has told me he believes in me and wants to improve me as a player so I look forward to working with him.
“If all goes well, it would be good to stay around a winning team and be part of what I think is going to be a big season.”
Bury Manager David Flitcroft added: “He’s a real attacking threat. He is someone who is very positive when he gets the ball. He can play on either wing and he can play in the hole as a number 10.
“He gives us flexibility and options. When the game gets stretched he is the type of player that might open doors.
“Duane gives you that little bit of excitement. He is someone that I want to see. He can make a real impact from the subs bench until we can get him up to full throttle.”
Meanwhile, some 200 miles up the road, left-back Jake Carroll was making his debut for Scottish Premiership side Partick Thistle.
The Irishman played 90 minutes of the 2-0 defeat to Aberdeen.
After the match, Jake spoke with the Club’s official website: “Although the result today wasn’t great it was a good game to play in for the atmosphere and the experience. It’s very disappointing to get beaten but we have a couple of weeks now to build on it and get it right for the next game.
“It’s not the best way to start my Thistle career but they are a very good team. I think we could have played better but they were impressive. Even having only known the rest of the guys for a couple of days I saw how disappointed everyone was and I know we’ll be looking to build on it when we’re back to action.
“I’m on loan at the moment but I’m just looking to impress the manager and get as many games under my belt as possible. I’m really looking forward to it so we’ll just have to see how we go.”
