First year professional leaves for First Team experience
Huddersfield Town youngster Sam Guthrie has today completed a one-month long loan deal to Salford City.
The first year professional joined Town from Gateshead College in 2012 and has since featured regularly for the Under-18s and the Under-21 Development Squad.
The 18 year-old ‘keeper now makes his way to the Evo-Stick League Division One North side to gain experience of football at First Team level. He could go straight into the action against Clitheroe on Saturday, as Salford’s regular number one Josh Cook was sent off during the team’s 6-0 defeat at Kendal Town last weekend.
That was the first loss of the season for Salford, managed by former Macclesfield Town striker Phil Power; the side currently sits third in its division with 33 points from the opening 14 games.
Salford City made headlines in the national media earlier this year when former Manchester United players Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt bought the Club.
Huddersfield Town’s Head of Goalkeeping Nick Colgan commented:
“The Club is well stocked in terms of developing goalkeepers at the moment and this move is an excellent opportunity for Sam to go and get his first taste of senior football in a team that is striving for promotion from its division.
“The recent loan moves gives Sam First Team experience, whereas Lloyd Allinson can continue to play for our Under-21 side and Tadhg Ryan our Under-18 team – it works for everyone.”
