Chances galore as Terriers win at Nethermoor
Town hit another four goal haul in a pre-season friendly as a mixture of experience and youth ran out 4-1 winners against Conference North side Guiseley this evening.
Duane Holmes and Harry Bunn gave Town a two goal lead before Guiseley hinted at a comeback with their second-half strike, but the Terriers were dominant throughout the majority of the 90 minutes and sealed an impressive win through further goals from Oliver Norwood and substitute Jake Charles.
After a scrappy opening 10 minutes Town settled and took control of the football, but it took until the 35th minute to break the deadlock. The impressive Bunn, who was a constant menace playing off the left side, slid a perfect ball through to Holmes, whose run had totally broken the offside trap. In ultra-composed fashion, Duane waited for the ‘keeper to commit himself before placing the ball out of his reach.
Five minutes after the interval the combination reversed roles to put Town two up, with a clever reverse pass from Holmes allowing former Manchester City man Bunn to smash the ball past the substitute goalkeeper.
Guiseley’s best spell of the game heralded a goal in the 63rd minute through an impressive snapshot from striker Adam Boyes, but the Terriers soon restored their two goal advantage through Oliver Norwood. After Martin Paterson picked out right wing back Jordan Sinnott with a cross-field pass, Sinnott and Norwood worked a quickfire one-two on the edge of the box before the Northern Ireland international swept the ball home without taking a touch in impressive fashion.
First year professional Jake Charles had the final say with seven minutes left, powering the ball between the goalkeeper and the near post after a surging run and pass from the impressive Matt Crooks.
There could have been more, with Paterson missing three good chances and substitute Jon Stead denied from a one-on-one. However, the general play and chances created left Manager Mark Robins a happy man at the final whistle.
