STRIKER JOINS ON YOUTH LOAN

19 September 2012

Rochdale prospect Abadaki to work with U21s

Huddersfield Town has today completed the signing of teenage Rochdale striker Godwin Abadaki on a youth loan until 14 January inclusive.

The Nigerian-born 18 year-old will work with Senior Professional Development Coach Steve Eyre and the Under-21 Development Squad in his stay at the Club, with the option of a permanent deal at the conclusion of the youth loan.

Eyre knows Godwin from his time as Rochdale’s First Team Manager and explained the loan move to htafc.com:

“Godwin is physically strong, quick and hungry to score goals – but he’s still raw and learning the game. Despite this, he has already played in Rochdale’s first team and acquitted himself well.

“His attributes fit what we wanted to add to the Development Squad and I recommended to Simon Grayson that we bring him to the Club.

“This five month loan is affectively an extended trial period for Godwin; the challenge is now with him to continue his progression whilst at Huddersfield Town.”

Abadaki progressed through the youth system at Spotland before signing his first professional contract in the summer of 2011. He made his professional debut as a substitute at just 17 years old during a 0-0 draw at Tranmere Rovers in npower League 1 in January 2012, which was closely followed up by a second substitute appearance in Rochdale’s next game at Wycombe Wanderers.

Godwin then joined Blue Square Bet North leaders Hyde on an initial one month loan the following month, which was subsequently extended until the end of the season. He netted two goals in 10 appearances as they won promotion to the Blue Square Bet National.

Youth loans are different to the usual emergency loans; players under the age of 20 on 1 July are applicable and there is no maximum cap on the number of days players can stay out on youth loans as long as they remain under 20.

Youth loans also offer clubs a greater flexibility on players coming and going between the two clubs involved.

Godwin is expected to be involved for Town in today's Under-21 League game at Derby County, 1pm kick-off.
