FRANKIE PLEASED TO OPEN WITH A WIN

18 August 2014

Senior Professional Development Coach talks to htafc.com

Huddersfield Town’s Frankie Bunn was pleased to see his side open with a win against Bristol City, but knows that there are things to work on ahead of their next match at home to Crystal Palace.

Town, at times, struggled to work openings against their visitors and were saved twice by ‘keeper Lloyd Allinson.

“The end result is pleasing, but our first half display was a bit poor,” said Frankie. “We didn’t move the ball quickly enough, but taking everything into account today was our first game of the season. For a number of the boys it was their first 90 minutes of the season (including pre-season) and when you consider all that, it was good to get the win.

“There are things to work on and having tried a three in midfield to start with, I thought we were better when we reverted to a four,” he continued. “In the last 20/25 minutes we took control of the game and threatened frequently. We looked fit enough throughout, but we need to work on moving the ball quicker and making the right decisions in the right situations.”

Billing, who scored three goals in 25 starts for the title winning Under-18s last season, got into Bristol City’s box regularly and benefited with a brace.

“We have been trying to instil that into him when he arrived at the Club; he has got the capabilities to get around the pitch,” Frankie said. “He has got big, long legs and he has timed his arrivals nicely to pick up two goals. Saying that, his general play was a little bit poor at times, especially defensively, and it is something that we will work on with him.”

One of Allinson’s aforementioned saves came in the 73rd minute to deny City’s James Difford, a moment Frankie felt could have turned the game: “It was an excellent save because goals change games; he was excellent throughout and did everything that was needed of him.”
