DERBY 1 TOWN U21s 1

9 April 2014

93rd minute equaliser denies the Terriers

A goal from a corner deep into second-half added time denied Town’s Under-21 side an away win at Derby County’s iPro Stadium in the Professional Development League 2 North this evening.

Town fielded a young team for the game with left back Jake Carroll as the only overage player. Joe Lolley also played his first game having suffered with shin splints recently.

The line-up also included a first starts of the season at Under-21 level for Academy scholars Joe Wilkinson, Philip Billing and Jake Charles.

The first half was goalless, with Derby having the clearest chance from the penalty spot after a foul by Jordan Sinnott. Derby’s Kwame Thomas stepped forward in the 27th minute, only for Town ‘keeper Lloyd Allinson to make the save.

Centre back Joe Wright also had to head a ball off his own line during the first period, whereas at the other end Lolley came closest – striking a post.

Lolley came off at half-time and his replacement Flo Bojaj put Steve Eyre’s side ahead on the hour mark, capitalising on a defensive mix-up. Top scorer for the Under-18s, this was Flo’s first goal at Under-21 level in only his second substitute appearance.

The Rams equalised with 30 seconds of the game remaining, with Callum Guy volleying home from the edge of the box after a Derby corner.

Town’s U21 team:
Lloyd Allinson; Jake Carroll, Joe Wilkinson, Joe Wright, Jordan Sinnott (c); Philip Billing, Sondre Tronstad (Ben Atkinson, 87); Jake Charles (Ben Holmes, 81), Matt Crooks, Joe Lolley (Flo Bojaj, 46); Paul Mullin
