Carr nets brace in Development Squad win

Town made it four wins and one draw from five games in the U21 Professional Development League 2 with a comfortable 2-0 success at Coventry on Tuesday afternoon.

A second half brace from striker Daniel Carr continued his hot streak in front of goal as Town’s Development Squad continued its unbeaten start to the league season.

Town went into its match at Coventry unbeaten and they quickly proved their credentials.

A seventh minute Max Leonard free-kick almost opened the scoring for the Terriers, but the attacker’s dipping effort was pushed away well by Coventry’s stopper Burge.

Town’s dominance in the game continued throughout the first half, but for all their effort, they failed to find a way through. The best chances fell to midfielder Dale Hopson who failed to capitalise on a goalkeeping error and striker Daniel Carr who lifted his leg loosely at Leonard’s cross when he really should have converted.

Carr’s missed chance was right on the stroke of half-time and he was quickly given a chance to redeem himself at the start of the second – and this time he made no mistake. All the hard work was done by Hopson, who collected the ball on the by-line and found the unmarked Carr with a neat cut-back to slot home.

It was very nearly two just a moment later when the exciting Duane Holmes cut inside his marker and fired a low shot against the foot of the post.

Leonard’s performance in the first-half had been slightly hit and miss, but he began the second half far more consistently and capped his bright spell with the assist for Town’s second. The Academy graduate picked up the ball down the right and found Carr who completed his brace with a tap in, after his header had rebounded off the post.

Carr missed an excellent chance to grab his hat trick and the Terriers wasted a couple of good openings later in the game, but the result was never in doubt as Steve Eyre’s side furthered its unbeaten run.
