FAMILIAR FOE AS ADDICKS ARRIVE

21 August 2014

Lillis in charge against in-form Charlton

Charlton Athletic arrives in Huddersfield this Saturday looking to record their fourth straight win in all competitions, Town meanwhile are looking to record their first victory on home soil.

The Addicks are the early pacesetters in the Sky Bet Championship having picked up seven points from their opening three matches and are only denied top spot on goal difference.

On paper, Bob Peeters men had a tough looking start with an away match at newly promoted Brentford and home fixtures against last season’s promotion contenders Wigan Athletic and Derby County.

Only a late Tommy Smith strike denied them three points on the opening day, whilst two impressive performances put Wigan and Derby to the sword.

Peeters, who only became manager in the summer, has seen his summer signings hit the ground running at the Valley. £2m striker Igor Vetokele has notched three goals in four matches; midfielder Yoni Buyens has scored twice whilst Icelandic international Johann Berg Gudmundsson turned in a Man of the Match performance against Wigan.

On the injury front, number 1 stopper Stephen Henderson looks set to miss out with 22 year-old Nick Pope likely to deputise. Henderson picked up a knock against Wigan and Pope has filled in valiantly since. Also, after missing a large chunk of last season through a knee injury, right-back Chris Solly is back in the reckoning. Solly didn’t play in the midweek victory over Derby as Peeters eased the 23 year-old back into action. If he doesn’t play, Academy product Joe Gomez is likely to start.

Charlton’s team vs Derby County (4-4-2):

Nick Pope; Rhoys Wiggins, Andre Bikey, Tal Ben-Haim, Joe Gomez; Jordan Cousins, Johnnie Jackson, Yoni Buyens, Johan Berg Gudmundsson; Igor Vetokele, George Tucudean

Town meanwhile has a fairly lengthy injury list with Captain Lee Peltier struggling with a groin injury; Anthony Gerrard (calf); James Vaughan (calf); Oscar Gobern (toe); Martin Paterson (knee); Danny Ward (back) and Joe Lolley (hip).

Recent head to head record:

March 2014: Charlton 0 Huddersfield Town 0
Jan 2014: Huddersfield Town 0 Charlton 1 (Simon Church)
Sep 2013: Huddersfield Town 2 (James Vaughan, Joel Lynch) Charlton 1 (Cameron Stewart)
Aug 2013: Huddersfield Town 3 (Joel Lynch, Jonathan Hogg, Adam Hammill) Charlton (Dale Stephens, Marvin Sordell)
