JACOB: WE CAN DO WELL

18 August 2014

Butterfield talks Town ahead of Reading

Jacob Butterfield is convinced the Town squad has the ability to do well in the Championship this season after making his debut for the Club in Saturday’s game at Cardiff City.

The midfielder played all 90 minutes in the game in Wales and having seen his new teammates in action first-hand, he is going into Tuesday’s game at Reading with confidence.

Jacob explained: “You never know what will happen in the Championship. Obviously we lost on Saturday and that’s disappointing, but having played in the game I came out of it thinking there were positives to take. On the ball we looked comfortable and were good at times, so I think we just need to work on a few things. We have some good players here. I think we can do well.

“I feel more settled now I’ve played a game. We saw bits of what the lads were capable of and what type of team we want to be. I’m looking forward to playing more games and kicking on.

“It’s a tough start to the season with the Saturday-Tuesday schedule and some hard fixtures, but it’s good for me as I can get right in the thick of it.

“It’s been a strange start, but this is a Club going in the right direction. There is a hell of a long way to go and a lot of football to be played this year and I think we’ll do well.

“We’re all looking forward to tomorrow’s game and going into it positively. We believe we can go there and get something.”

Jacob was part of the new-look midfield diamond at the Cardiff City Stadium and showed his versatility throughout the 90 minutes.

“I like to be central, but if we change formation or want to go a different way I’m flexible. It depends on how the game is going, the scoreline and changes in personnel.

“On Saturday we played a diamond formation and I was more drawn out to the left, but then I moved to the right in the second-half and ended up central due to the change in formation. You have to do different things depending on the state of the game and I’m happy to do my part.”
