TOWN’S TEAM vs. BIRMINGHAM

Gerrard back in starting XI

After a two game absence, Anthony Gerrard returns to the starting XI for today’s Sky Bet Championship game at home to Birmingham City; 3pm kick-off.

Gerrard’s reintroduction is one of two changes made by Manager Mark Robins to the team that started last weekend’s game at Wigan Athletic and is the Liverpudlian’s 50th League appearance for the Terriers.

Anthony replaces Joel Lynch in the starting line-up, with the Wales international only training for one day this week following an operation on his thumb on Monday.

The other change comes in midfield; with Jonathan Hogg not fully recovered from the knock to the knee that forced him off just before the interval at the DW Stadium last Saturday, Sean Scannell takes his place for his first start in five games.

Town are likely to stick with their 4-2-3-1 formation this afternoon. Ever-present Alex Smithies is in goal behind a back four of Paul Dixon, Anthony Gerrard, skipper Peter Clarke and Swansea City loanee Jazz Richards.

Oliver Norwood drops back to partner Keith Southern in central midfield behind the more advanced trio of Sean Scannell, Danny Ward, and Adam Hammill.

Jonathan Stead leads the line again for the Terriers this afternoon.
