Midfielder moves on one month youth loan

Huddersfield Town midfielder Chris Atkinson has today completed a one month youth loan move to npower League 2 outfit Chesterfield.

The central midfielder moves to the Proact Stadium on an initial one month youth loan deal until 21 October.

Huddersfield Town Manager Simon Grayson believes the move will offer Atkinson great experience:

“Chris has played in every Development game so far and impressed the coaches immensely,” said Simon. “We feel that this move will benefit his development as a young footballer in an environment close to home and in a team who are looking to bounce back following relegation.

“Our young Academy graduates such as Jack Hunt and Liam Ridehalgh have used loan spells at Chesterfield in the past to great effect and we are hoping Chris will do the same.”

The move is the 20 year-old’s second loan move away from the Club after he enjoyed 15 appearances at Darlington last season.

With Town, Chris has made two starts and two substitute appearances. His first appearance came off the bench against Macclesfield Town in the FA Cup with his first start coming later in the season against Dagenham and Redbridge.

Chris joins fellow Town player Liam Ridehalgh at Chesterfield who has made four appearances to date in his loan spell.

Youth loans are different to the usual emergency loans; players under the age of 20 on 1 July are applicable and there is no maximum cap on the number of days players can stay out on youth loans as long as they remain under 20 – Chris turns 20 on 13 February.

Youth loans also offer clubs a greater flexibility on players coming and going between the two clubs involved.
