ADAM CLAYTON: WE’RE CAPABLE

17 April 2014

Midfielder confident of positive result

Huddersfield Town midfielder Adam Clayton believes he and his teammates are capable of picking up the required points to keep the Terriers in the Championship.

The midfielder has been a virtual ever present in the heart of midfield for Town this season and he battled manfully in difficult circumstances at Derby County last Saturday.

With just four games of the season to go Town are six points above the drop zone and Clayton is confident that the Terriers will earn the points to stay up.

“The players think about the situation we are in, but we aren’t fearful of relegation,” he told htafc.com. “At the moment the gap is six points, but there are four games of football left to be played and we know that we are capable of winning two, three or all four. It won’t work like that, but we know that we can get the points we need.

“We are trying to get them as quickly as possible to ease the fans’ worries. I am not concerned about relegation; I believe we will get the necessary points.”

Like Derby last weekend, Brighton are fighting for promotion and need the win to maintain their hopes of a Play-Off place.

“Brighton are a tough team, but we know from the draw we earned at the Amex that we can match them,” Clayton said. “They pass the ball well and there will be stages during the game when we are without it and that is when we will need the crowd to stay onside.

“We are a capable team though, and we can beat them. Nahki (Wells) has been playing and scoring well of late and Danny Ward just needs one of his chances to go in, to set him off on a run. There is plenty of potential in our team and we believe we can beat anyone on our day.

“I play in quite an important position and can have a positive impact on both sides of the team. I can start moves and also help out defensively. Although I am only 25 years-old and I am still learning the game, I feel I can have a big influence."
