The swanky new Engineering Centre at Kirklees College played host to the latest edition of the Huddersfield Town Enterprise Academy (HTEA) on Thursday afternoon.
Over 60 business delegates attended the latest session of the HTEA, which focussed on ‘Preparing your business for the next generation of employees.’
The expert panel of speakers consisted of Peter McCann, Principal of Club Partner Kirklees College; Mike Gore - Director of Club Partner Blue Apple Training; and business coach and mentor, Andy McMenemy. The panel outlined some of the pressing issues employers face in finding the next generation employees with some real life examples of how this can be turned around provided by Mike and Andy.
Peter McCann put forward some key questions as to how business attitudes should change towards the newer generation of the workforce. The highlight of the day was a heart-warming story of Tresor Mundabi, one of the many students who have worked with Blue Apple Training. Tresor shared his story on how he was ‘literally unemployable’ prior to working on changing things for himself by enrolling in one of Blue Apple Training’s courses.
Commercial Manager, Tracy Nelson, who was present in the audience commented:
“The Huddersfield Town Enterprise Academy is a unique opportunity for businesses to interact with the Club, with each other, and also with Club partners. The idea of the Enterprise Academy concept is for the Club to always look at ways for local businesses to come together.
“It was good to see new people at the event and we hope that there will be more opportunities for participants to work together. The new Engineering Centre at Kirklees College provided a fantastic and pertinent setting to the topic that was being discussed. Tresor’s story was an inspiration and I hope that businesses grab the opportunity to work with colleges and schools to help young students realise what career pathways they can follow.
