Ambassador busy during closed season

Even though the players were away during the close season – I have been as busy as ever!

I was on stadium tour duty to show Chris Hepworth and his family around the John Smith’s Stadium as a special treat for his father’s 80th birthday.

I also attended the University of Huddersfield to present Headfield Junior School in Dewsbury with certificates and to congratulate each child on their achievements on their graduation from the ‘Children’s University’.

The Children’s University is an international project which not only recognises the ‘out-of-school-hours’ achievements of children and young adults, but also aims to promote University life to the younger generation. In Kirklees, the project is managed by staff from Huddersfield Town’s Success Centre who co-ordinate and promote the scheme within local schools.

Huddersfield Town Success Centre is a schools and community focused educational centre jointly managed by Huddersfield Town and Kirklees Council.

My final two entries relate to bikes. Firstly, I was on my bike at school partner and Town Foundation Breakfast Club school, Hillside Primary. Around 340 children took part in a sponsored cycle event to raise funds for the school. The event was timed to coincide with the Yorkshire stage of the Tour de France and the children pedalled 200km (124miles) around the school grounds, to match the distance the cyclists travelled.

Secondly, I was delighted to be involved in the Keep it Up campaigns’ £1m announcement! I have been fortunate to have been involved in the KIU campaign since its inception and am proud to have cycled in every bike ride since Southend.

Finally, it’s excellent to see Mark Robins and the players back at PPG Canalside for pre-season, a stage in the season that I will never miss! Hopefully they can enjoy a successful pre-season campaign and hit the ground running August.
