Town legend pens his first htafc.com blog
As many of you will already know, I’m fortunate enough to go out into our local area and tell our community about all the good things we’re doing at Huddersfield Town. I’ve had a really busy but rewarding few weeks, which has mainly been focussed on helping to attract the next generation of supporters to the Club.
Our schools partnership is a fantastic scheme that gets lots of youngsters to our games – you’ve probably noticed them on occasions in the Fantastic Family Stand. The scheme allows schools to sell tickets at a discounted rate for our home fixtures and earn cashback to spend on equipment, so it’s a genuine win-win for everyone!
Over the last three weeks I’ve visited six of our school partners – and I’ve been joined by members of the squad on two occasions. Last month Jon Stead came along to his old school at Honley to help me present a plaque that recognises the school as an official partner; he was a fantastic ambassador for the Club.
One of our younger pros, Daniel Carr, took time on his day off to come to Crossley Fields Junior and Infant School in Mirfield on Wednesday for the same reason and he was equally as good with the children. Our Football in the Community team is doing some great work with the school’s pupils to help them improve their reading skills at the moment too.
I’ve also recently presented official school partner plaques to St. John’s CE Primary Academy in Clifton and Knowles Wood Primary, which is our first school partner in Bradford!
I was also glad to be asked to help our school partner Todmorden High School with its presentation evening, where I also attended an assembly at Reinwood Junior School to promote our home game against Wigan Athletic on 8 February alongside Terry the Terrier, who is always more popular with the kids than I am!
The Club also offers a partnership scheme to junior sports clubs in the region and I recently visited one of our newest partner, Northowram Junior Football Club, to present them with their partnership plaque.
My most recent meeting was possibly the most important – the ‘All Together Town’ meeting at PPG Canalside. There were a lot of positive suggestions made by the supporters and the Club representatives and I think anyone at that meeting could see that the Directors are totally committed to listening to the Club’s supporters.
